Dental implants are ideal for patients who have missing teeth. Whether you’ve lost your teeth due to an accident, gum disease or tooth decay, dental implants have grown in popularity because it actually feels more like your natural teeth as compared to a set of dentures or a bridge.
If you are considering dental implants, here are a couple major things to factor in:
- First, they can be costly. Depending on your specific case, you’re looking at spending anywhere between $1,000 to $3,000 for a single tooth implant. Factored into this range are the 3-D CT scans, materials, multiple doctor visits and lab fees. If a dentist is quoting you less than that, you should be concerned about the quality care you’re receiving and the type of material and technology being used. And if your quote is much higher than this range, you should be concerned about being over charged.
- Second, there is a healing time. Because artificial material is implanted into the gum tissue, your gums and teeth will need sufficient time to heal. Generally—and depending on each case—you can expect the healing time to be between four and six months. A qualified dental implant specialist should be able to give you a thorough assessment based on your individual needs.
Once you’ve considered these factors, the benefits can far outweigh some of these initial concerns.
- Not only do dental implants look and feel more like your own teeth, it will improve your overall speech, enabling you to speak more clearly and chew the foods you like more comfortably.
- Dental implants if placed correctly should last twenty to thirty years. And while the initial cost may seem high, it’s actually more cost effective than if you were to have bridges placed as an alternative. Bridges are not as strong or durable and may need to be replaced every seven to fifteen years.
Keep in mind that every case is different and qualified dental implant specialist should be able to give a thorough assessment based on your individual needs, and provide a treatment plan that will work for you.
